Sometimes at night, I torture myself by doing research on Multiple Sclerosis. I think I like to know all of the bad things just to prepare myself. Then I can always say it could be worse. Anyway, I was doing that when I stumbled on an article on a Canadian study conducted by Dr. Freedman where 25 people with MS (those that had failed more aggressive standard treatments like myself) were given high doses of chemo followed by a autologous stem cell transplant. Amazingly 24 of those participants went into complete remission for years and it looked like even reversing damage in some. One scary part, 1/25 died. Yikes, dangerous! But after further research into this, I found the first doctor to perform a similar procedure and a pioneer in this arena was Dr Richard Burt. A doctor conducting a clinical trial in Chicago at Northwestern was taking patients. I thought, Tysabri may not be working. Maybe this is our plan B, its getting a lot of buzz as a potential cure in some and the words possible. cure. are giving me some hope!!
